It's been one hell of a ride!

Well everyone, my time here at Scandal in the Choir Loft is coming to an end, but have no fear! I'm relocating to Secrets of a Sweet Southern Girl! I will continue to do product/book reviews and host writing contests. I will also be resurrecting Monday Mornings with Missie and starting a new feature called Talk to Me Tuesday where I will be featuring other bloggers. I'm very excited about the move. This blog has run it's course and while I still consider myself to be a bit scandalous, I've calmed down a lot in the past year and I want my online life to reflect that.

So without further ado! Today is my first day at the new site! I am hosting a giveaway for one of my custom design rings. So go check it out, subscribe or follow the new site and help me spread the word that I am outta here!

Sexy Saturday Read: Take Me There

Take Me There
by Tristan Taormino
Published by Cleis Press
Provided by Babeland.com for Review

From Goodreads:

Take Me There is a passion project for Tristan Taormino, who presents erotica by, for, and about transfolk, FTMs, MTFs, genderqueers, gender outlaws, as well as two-spirit, intersex, and gender-variant people in her newest anthology. Among the diverse array of voices inTake Me There, one important theme running throughout the stories is the power of seeing and being seen. It’s not simply about passing, but about being acknowledged and desired in a sexual context. Affirmation and want collide in Andrea Zanin’s story of a baby butch dyke and the transwoman she picks up in a small-town cafĂ©. Likewise, the main character in Helen Boyd’s “All Girl Action” longs to be touched as a woman by other queer women. The characters of these stories are ready and willing to go there — and they do, over and over again.

My Thoughts:

I have to admit that I didn't completely read the book's description before requesting it for review. I've never read trans or genderqueer erotica before so it was a very different experience for me. The writing was pretty incredible though. Even though I'm a hetero female I still enjoyed the writing and the emotion in the stories. So  I think it was well written and really covered a genre that I haven't ever really seen before. For anyone who enjoys this cross section of erotica I definitely recommend it!

At least now I have clean toilets.

This is exactly what I told my mother this morning. She had called to ask to borrow my shower to get ready and I, being the wonderful daughter that I am, said that of course she could. I also warned her that my apartment is something akin to a disaster zone at present and she may want to wear her hazmat suit. I'm kidding, it's not that bad.  It is a complete wreck, though. So as I got ready for work I rushed around trying to clean up and realized that she would be spending most of her time there in my bathroom. I grabbed the scrubbin' bubbles and got to work. I was only a few minutes late getting out the door but as I got the the parking lot my phone buzzed with a text.

"Not coming, I look wonderful."

So you see I get my gracious humility honestly? But at least now my toilets are clean.

It has been a very long week. There have been two deaths in my extended family and I have been super unproductive at work because I'm immensely distracted by all sorts of things. Overwhelmed doesn't even scratch the surface. I'm letting go of somethings and pouring more of my time into others but I'm still settling into a new routine that will hopefully give me a little more room to breath once the dust settles.

Housekeeping Notes: My new site is up! I will start blogging there on Sunday the 5th! You can go ahead and add www.sweet-southern-girl.com to your readers and follow me on twitter @SSG_Danielle. There is also FB and G+ and you can find those links on the main page.

I'm also looking for someone who wants to talk about love, romance, or your own Happily Ever After for a feature post on Valentine's day. If anyone is interested just shoot me an e-mail at danielle{at}sweet-southern-girl{dot}com

Review: BSwish BWarm Candle

BWarm Candle
Manufactured by BSwish
Provided for review by Vibrator.com

My Thoughts:

This massage candle was impressive in a lot of ways. I love the shape of the container. The tall cupped back allowed me to easily pour the wax without making a mess. I absolutely loved that. The scent wasn't very strong while it was burning, but once we poured the wax out for use the fragrance was stronger. Not that it was too strong, we loved it. I received the Fig Wood fragrance which worked out because I really wanted to have a candle that wouldn't be so feminine for J's massages. It was a nice earthy smell.

My container was a peachy color instead of white, but it didn't bother me. However, if you're going to be all "but the picture was a white container!" then you've been warned :)

I used a little too much wax so it didn't absorb completely, but I just used a cloth to wipe away the excess wax when we were done. It left the skin nice and smooth and not too greasy.

This candle is very reasonably priced at $23.99 and with the easy to use design I would definitely recommend it, especially for a wax newbie.

Sexy Saturday Read: Best Erotic Romance

Best Erotic Romance
Edited by Kristina Wright
Published by Cleis Press
Review copy provided by Publisher

From Goodreads:

This inaugural collection of erotic romance features the very best of the genre. In erotic romance, the sexual component is critical to the development of the romantic relationship. Each of these masterfully written tales contains the essence of true romance: a central love story and an emotionally-satisfying, optimistic ending. What sets Best Erotic Romance apart is the scorching hot sex and the happily-ever-after (or happy-for-now) ending. Award-winning romance writer and editor Kristina Wright and her cast of terrific romance writers have crafted stories that touch the hearts and minds of readers, and linger in the memory for a long, long time.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this collection. I love the stories of passion that are driven mainly by emotion. I love romance, and I love hot sex. This anthology has both in spades! Kristina Wright did an excellent job picking out stories of heated passion whose characters had a deeper connection.

This collection is geared to M/F romance, but I would definitely recommend this to any reader who enjoys erotica. All of the stories were great, I had a hard time picking my favorites. As always though, there are some that stuck out more than others.

My three favorite stories in this collection:

Drive me crazy by Delilah Devlin
Memories for Sale by Angela Dale
Honey Changes everything by Emerald

I gave this collection a 4/5 rating. It really was great! Get yourself a copy!

Twitter Blackout?

Now don't get excited!
(That's a phrase my grandpa and dad use when I'm getting worked up about things that don't really affect me.)

But are we (collective society) jumping the gun by calling for a twitter blackout?

I might be stirring a pot, and if anyone has information other than what I've read I'm happy to be corrected.

What I'm hearing is that in the past there have been entire countries where twitter couldn't really be used because of the government's censorship laws.

Twitter has come up with a way to allow people in those countries to use twitter while still complying with the laws of that country.

These tweets/accounts are not deleted, but rather a message that reads something like "Your government won't let us show you this content" shows up instead.

Now for those of us here in the US, it's not going to change anything. And anyone using twitter can still say what they want to say, but some people can't see it because of their governments laws.

So for people in said countries the options are no twitter or limited twitter.

Is this not correct?

Don't get me wrong, I hate censorship too and I think the countries that enforce it are wrong to do so.

But can we hold twitter accountable for the laws in other countries?

Shouldn't we be glad that those people have a way to use this social media outlet even if is restricted, as opposed to not being able to use it at all?

I'll even site my sources that led me to form this opinion. I read THIS article on Huffington Post. Then THIS announcement on the twitter blog, and THIS section in the twitter policies.

I am happy for you to disagree with me if you a) know what you're talking about, b) have some sited source that backs you up, and c) do it respectfully.

So there's what I'm thinking. Tell me what you think. Or if you don't think. Or if you, like me, figure it won't affect you anyway because you don't usually use twitter on Saturday?

The Halloween Edition {REPOST}

MWM #7. The Halloween Edition was originally published 10/25/10.

Getting in the Mood

Sex toys - EdenFantasys adult toys store
I can imagine that there are plenty of people out there like me. Some days you get into a funk and for whatever reason, you just aren't in the mood for sex. I have a great boyfriend who never pushes me for anything, and that's only one of the reasons that I always want to do special things for him. So on those days where I want to (because I know it will make me feel better) but my body just doesn't agree, I set up the scene with a little help from EdenFantasys.com.

I come home and take a shower with some yummy smelling products and, for me, some Coochy Shave Cream. Once I'm all clean and smooth I pull out some comfortable, but sexy lingerie. I make sure the condoms are out, a massage candle is burning and all the Liberator Gear is within reach. I also make sure to have my favorite sex toys nearby in case we want them.

The original rash free body shave cream for women2 PC. Lycra/mesh babydoll with gathered lace padded cups, rhinestone button detail and removable straps. Includes lycra G-StringLelo’s flickering touch massage candle is made from all natural soy wax, shea butter and apricot kernel oil. The massage candle contains the natural vitamin E.The first ever waterproof book for adults

Then I settle down on the bed with whatever erotica anthology I'm currently reading and I wait.

Never fails. By the time he walks in the door I'm wet and waiting.

What do you all do to get yourself in the mood if you are in a funk?

I received a giftcard in exchange for this post through the EdenFantasys Ambasador Program.

Sexy Saturday Read: If You See Her

If You See Her
by Shiloh Walker
Published by Ballentine Books
January 2012
ARC provided by Author

From Goodreads:

Hope Carson may not look like a survivor, but she has escaped an abusive ex-husband and recovered from a vicious assault. Now she endures the painful memories and suspicious rumors surrounding her involvement in the attack. Her ex is a cop, so the last people she trusts are law enforcement officials—and she certainly doesn’t trust how the local DA makes her feel inside.

Remy Jennings should know better. He has no business falling for a woman who he suspects may have a deeply troubled mind. And even if he did make a move, she’d bolt like a frightened rabbit. But how can he deny a burning desire that threatens to consume him? As Hope’s past catches up with her in the worst way, Remy is determined to break through her defenses, earn her trust, and keep her safe in his arms—before it’s too late.

My Thoughts:

The second book in the Ash Trilogy was even better than the first! Is that possible? Obviously it is! I knew that Hope was going to be one of my favorite characters when we first met her in If You Hear Her, but she is seriously a great character. She's been victimized by her bastard ex in more than one way and the growth that she goes through in this book is amazing.

Her budding relationship with Remy Jennings is everything you want for her to have and experience. He is a good guy and he's incredibly protective of Hope. It's a really sweet romance.

There are some plot twists related to the murder in If You Hear Her, it would seem that the murderer is fascinated with Hope, but not because he wants to hurt her. *Interesting* Then there is Hope's scummy ex who shows up and tries to screw things up for Hope.

This book ends much like the first. Another unplanned murder with a coinciding set-up to try and deter the investigation. I'm looking forward to the third and final book in the Ash Trilogy, If You Know Her, where they mystery is *hopefully* solved and Law final gets his romance.

I gave this book a 5/5 rating! I loved it. You should definitely read this series by Shiloh Walker. Check out my review of the first book in this series, If You Hear Her.

Menage a Trois?

Let's talk about Menage a Trois. Not the wine, though it's one of my faves, but the sex act. You know, a three-way.

It became a minor part of conversation while I was at my girl J's last night, and she and I more or less agreed it wasn't for us at this point.

For her though, it was never on the books. For me, it's not in the cards in now that I'm in a relationship. I don't want to share, and I only want to be with J-man.

Now in erotica, I love a well executed three-way. As a fantasy, two guys focusing on my pleasure sure is a turn-on, but real life can be a little different sometimes.

The only male voice in the conversation pulled the whole, "but when it's real love you just want to make your man happy right?" We called bullshit on him and he gave up the fight. It was two-to-one on that point.

So I'm curious. What brave souls out there have participated in a three-way (or four or more) and enjoyed it? Anyone participated and hated it? You can always comment anonymously if you don't want the world to know who you are.

I'm also curious for those who haven't. Is it that you've never had the opportunity, or that you don't want to? Or are you like me and you would have been game in the past but now you're settled and don't want anything but the one you have?

Sporadic Much?

I'm being so inconsistent lately, I hope you'll power through this with me. I'm working on fun things for the next step, and reposting MWM so that I can continue it after the switch.

Speaking of the big switch! I bought my new domain (Squee!) and I already have three committed giveaways for the week of the changeover! I'm planning the next writing contest, and I'm getting to know Missie and Gina again!

I needed a re-boot and I'm really excited about getting it all going again.

I've mentioned this once, but so far no response. I wanted to do a "confessions" post with some of your scandalous secrets, but I haven't gotten any response yet. If I get enough response to put the feature together I'm going to draw a name from the submissions and give them a $25 GC to EdenFantasys.com because I'm awesome like that. If I don't get at least five though it won't be worth it.

So send me your secrets! scandalinthechoirloft{at}gmail{dot}com

ALSO, I'm participating in Steph and Jayme's awesome Flab to Fit Challenge and if you haven't read about it, and you've got some weight to lose, check it out! You can find details HERE.

Then there is the shameless Check out the New Etsy Listings link, because this is a mish-mash post with a little of everything :)

Karaoke Night {REPOST}

MWM #2. Karaoke Night was originally published 9/20/10.

Back in the Bottle

No, I'm not an alcoholic, that's literally what I did last night. I was working on jewelry, watching People Choice Awards, and I had a glass of wine. I also used my new Keurig to fix a cup of cider. Why did I do both at the same time? I don't know.

Anyway, after the first glass of wine with my leftovers I forgot about the cider and poured another glass. So, K-cups aren't cheap, but wine is precious. So when I realized what I'd done I though, just pour it back in the bottle.

So I did. Then I saw what I was doing. I felt really stupid.

Why am I sharing this mundane story of stupidity? Well, I thought in my twisted little head that it was kinda funny. I also thought I might share some tricks of my broke girl trade with you all! Since I haven't done a top ten in a while....

Ten ways D survives having no money :)

10. Have an awesome boyfriend that gives you his Groupon and Living Social vouchers when you are broke.

9. Pour wine back into bottle. (Don't worry Jen I won't share that bottle)

8. When eating out, never eat all your food. That way you always have an extra lunch :)

7. Make coffee at work. When I'm low at home I just make it at work. People think I'm being nice, not cheap.

6. Be a reviewer. Seriously, I never buy sex toys or books anymore. It makes things easier.

5. Re-Purpose EVERYTHING. Mason Jars work to hold toiletries!

4. Accept every single family outing invitation. (FREE MEALS)

3. Make your own Jewelry. I'm just saying. People buy things and I use the leftover materials to make stuff for me :)

2. Clean up - you wouldn't believe how much stuff I find when I clean.

1. Flood the internet with pictures of your beautiful creations and hope someone buys something!

Aren't they pretty? I'm a proud mama :)

Calling all Secrets!!!!

Ok, so I'm not blogging as much as I should be right now, I'm sorry. It's because I'm preparing for my big switch. So far I have three sponsored giveaways and I'm working on some more. Because I'm playing with my tagline, I want to have a couple of fun confession style posts the week of the switch, so I want your secrets! Scandalous, quirky, or just downright funny! You can give me your name or don't. Either way is fine with me. Need help writing it up? Look at the Confessions articles at Cosmo for examples.

For a little bit of an incentive. I will put all of the confessions in a (cyber)hat and draw a winner for GC to EdenFantasys that I will take from my own personal earnings :)

E-mail your confessions to scandalinthechoirloft{at}gmail{dot}com

Sexy Saturday Read: Shadow's Stand

Shadow's Stand (Hell's Eight #5)
by Sarah McCarty
Published by HQN
Expected Release January 31st, 2012
Net Galley Copy

From Goodreads:

Shadow Ochoa is lying low in the western Kansas Territory, waiting for his fellow Texas Rangers—the Hell's Eight brotherhood—to clear his name. That is, until he's unjustly strung up for horse thieving…and pretty Fei Yen intervenes. Invoking a seldom-used law, the exotic lady prospector claims Shadow as her husband and rides off with the bridegroom shackled to her buckboard.
Savvy, fearless Fei is single-mindedly devoted to her hidden claim and all it promises: wealth, security and freedom. A husband is just a necessary inconvenience and a name on paper to hold the claim she cannot.
Shadow isn't a man to take orders from anyone, especially from lovely Fei—except that the daily friction between them ignites into nightly blazes of all-consuming passion. Soon Shadow is dreaming a little himself: of the life they could have if only Fei could see past the lure of independence. If only bounty hunters weren't closing in on him. If only he's left standing when the impending showdown has ended….

My Thoughts:

Finally! I've been waiting on this book for at least a year now. Contract gaps or something. I personally think it was worth waiting for. You guys remember when I reviewed Caine's Reckoning? Well, I'm fairly sure that I mentioned how much I love this incredibly sexy historical cowboy series.

Shadow's Stand didn't disappoint. Shadow is a broody, dark character. He's been a fairly significant member of the Hell's Eight crew from the beginning. He had a way of killing people who needed to die. In this, his book, he is running from the law after killing a prominent business man in front of the US Army. (Obviously the bastard needed to die. He'd been raping women and sending people to kill the wives of his friend Caine and his brother Tracker.)

He's distanced himself from Hell's Eight and convinced himself that he is a burden to anyone that would care about him. When his circumstance find him the husband of Fei Yen, an ambitious and headstrong American-Chinese woman, things start to go a little sideways for Shadow.

One half completed hanging, lots of explosions, another threat of a hanging, and a gold mine cave-in. These are things to expect from Shadow's Stand. It didn't disappoint.

Business details: Harlequin has done away with the SPICE imprint. The first four books in the series were completely littered with scenes of hot sheet scorching sex in every way you can dream up. Now all of the former SPICE titles are being printed under the HQN imprint which has historically been a bit more mainstream. Shadow's Stand was not as spicy as it's predecessors in this series. It was still hot, just not as explicit, and a little more vanilla. It is my assumption that this has to do with the publishing changes and not with the author.

My copy had a lot of grammatical errors and typos, however it was an advanced review copy so I am hoping that all of that got worked out before it went to the printers for the final round.

I really enjoyed this read and I give it a 4/5 rating!

Do you read multiple books at a time or just stick to one?

Yes, sometimes. If I am really into a book, I may read it cover to cover, uninterrupted. But I review a lot of anthologies so those are little snippets at a time and I'm usually reading those when I just have a few minutes and I don't have time to sit down and get into a novel. I also have a nook so I tend to always be reading at least one title on my nook and one print book. I try to have one or the other with me wherever I am.

I've fallen down on the job here...

So I was informed yesterday that I have fallen down on the job. It seems that my girl J really looked forward to reading the Mondays with Missie feature that I used to do and she wants to see me continue it.

(We were in a state of major red wine consumption when she sweetly told me that she was beginning to get "pissed off" to visit my page each day only to discover that I hadn't done anything. Ha!)

A lot of my current readers don't even know what I'm talking about because it's been so long since I've talked about Missie and Gina's adventures in single life.
I'm going to get back to it though, so my plan is to re-post the MWM posts from the beginning over the next few weeks and then continue the series. If you've missed the MWM series let me know! I like to hear that people are reading and liking my stuff. Otherwise assume I was just doing it for me and so I let it go.

So, did anyone else's weekend start last night? Or was that just us?

I'm thinking about some big changes!

So I'm thinking about giving this blog a serious makeover. Not content wise, I like what I'm doing so no complaints there, but I'm bored with the Scandal in the Choir Loft motif. I'm also thinking about coming out of the anonymous closet so there's that.

If I just use Secrets of a Sweet Southern Girl will ya'll still love me?

Review: Koa Ring by Picobong

Koa Ring
Manufactured by Picobong
Provided by Babeland.com

From Babeland:

Slip the Koa Ring from Picobong over a finger, and you'll be ready for delightful vibrating action. When worn on a dildo, Koa provides a hands-free horizontal surface for vibration against the clit; when worn on a finger, you can position it any which way you like! Try Koa's smooth silicone surface against the clit, labia, perineum, balls, nipples... you're limited only by your imagination. Waterproof up to three feet.

This product has a one-year warranty against breakage or defects.

My Thoughts:

This little vibe packs a punch. It was the perfect size and shape for self stimulation. The buttons weren't super easy to press during use as they are on the body of the toy. Once I adjusted the speed where I liked it though it was a quick and easy ride to the goal ;)

The Koa Ring is designed so that it can be held by the ring or worn around the penis (or on a dildo) to provide clitoral stimulation during sex. (Or that was what I thought. I later read that it wasn't supposed to be used this way? Unfortunately that was the whole reason I wanted to try it.) As a couples toy the Koa Ring fell short for us. You can see in the picture the ring is a little off center and it was nearly impossible for us to adjust the toy so that it lined up the way it was supposed to. While J swears it didn't hurt, I think he was just being agreeable because it looked like it was pinching. It ended up being an annoyance and a hindrance to sex for us. As a fun toy to use for nipple play or hands on clitoral stimulation, it wasn't bad.

The silicone cover and design made it aesthetically pleasing, and the Koa Ring is waterproof (always a plus!). For me though, it just wasn't my favorite, mainly because it didn't really work for me the way it was intended to.

That was just my opinion though! I tried to find some positive reviews out there but I didn't have much luck aside from on-site reviews. If you have a positive review of this product or know of one feel free to leave a link in the comments below.

If you wanna try the Koa Ring for yourself go check it out at Babeland.com!

This product was provided to me free of charge by babeland.com in exchange for a honest unbiased review. Want to review sex toys? Go HERE for more information!

Restless Energy...

I think that New Year's Resolutions are a result of left over energy from the holiday season.

The holidays are over and there was all kinds of hustle and bustle that came and went with it. We spend so much time getting ready for Christmas, and one or two days simply isn't enough time to get all of that energy out! So the following week we resolve to do any number of things. We make our list and often it looks very much like the list we made last January.

I think we are just restless. We need something else to do! So we get ambitious. I'm currently planning to work my way through my apartment methodically purging all of the un-needed items taking up space and organizing everything to make day to day living easier.

I'm not going to make a resolution because I know, as sure as I know my name, that I may only get through one room before I run out of energy and decide things are ok the way they are.

I am not going to resolve to lose weight, mainly because I started trying to lose last fall and only took a "break" for the holidays. By break, of course, I mean I didn't have the discipline to stay with it. (I didn't gain anything though!!!) So I will continue to try and lose weight, but hopefully with a little more fervor.

So basically, it's restless energy that causes us to make resolutions. And ultimately, it is an overall lack of energy that usually ensure the same items end up on the list again next year.

That's just my opinion, take it or leave it. I still hope I make the most of this restless energy before the everyday routine starts to wear on me again.
