Sexy Saturday Reads: If You Hear Her

If You Hear Her
by Shiloh Walker
Published by Ballantine Books
Released October 2011

From Goodreads:

A CRY IN THE WOODS

The scream Lena Riddle hears in the woods behind her house is enough to curdle her blood—she has no doubt that a woman is in real danger. Unfortunately, with no physical evidence, the local law officers in small-town Ash, Kentucky, dismiss her claim. But Lena knows what she heard—and it leaves her filled with fear and frustration.

Ezra King is on leave from the state police, but he can’t escape the guilty memories that haunt his dreams. When he sees Lena, he is immediately drawn to her. He aches to touch her—to be touched by her—but is he too burdened by his tragic past to get close? When Ezra hears her story of an unknown woman’s screams, his instincts tell him that Lena’s life is also at risk—and his desire to protect her is as fierce as his need to possess her

My Thoughts:

I've said it before and I will say it again; I love Shiloh Walker! This book was awesome, I absolutely love a good trilogy that is actually a long story. Series are great and all, but I loved being hooked and just waiting for the next book. It was everything I hoped it would be. I've always loved Shiloh Walker but the more I read her work the better it gets!

In If You Hear Her we really get to know Lena Riddle, the cook at a local Inn. One night she meets the sexy Ezra King, a state cop on leave. Things are really starting to simmer between the two when Ezra's past causes him to back off, until Lena finds herself in the middle of a police investigation because she heard screams in the woods outside her house. Ezra finds himself wanting to protect her and ensure that local law enforcement is taking her seriously. Because Lena is the only witness, and by the way she is blind, the police are at a standstill in there investigation.

Then Lena's friend Law is framed and Hope, the new girl in town, is in danger? I mean, it just keeps getting better! There aren't really any slow parts. I really did enjoy this book. There is action all the way through and even though there isn't a completely evil cliffhanger there is enough happening to make you really want to read the next book as soon as possible!

As far as characters go I really liked Lena, she's a no bull-shit kind of woman. Ezra is a super sexy, sometimes broody guy, but his story allows for it so it's not annoying :)

Law, Lena's friend and a best-selling mystery writer, is kind of the puppy dog best friend that is always looking to make sure the people he cares about are happy even when he isn't. I want good things to happen for him and I want to see him get aggressive about getting what he wants! I have high hopes :)

Hope is my favorite though. Hope has a difficult past and when we first meet her she is a scared, timid woman who flinches at the sight of law enforcement. Even by the end of this book though we are seeing her strength. My favorite scene is where she puts this busybody woman in her place. I really like her! The next book is going to focus on her and I am soo excited about it!

I really, really loved this book. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! I would rate it a 5/5!
